The theoretical analysis and application research of chaos have been increasingly concentrated on from the birth of the word"chaos"in 1970's. This concentration comes from not only the peculiar aerodynamic characteristics of chaos itself, but also the potential application of chaos in numerous subject areas such as informatics, biological science, medical science, engineering, even economics and sociology. With the continuously development of chaos theory and application, this dissertation focuses on chaos engineering application, discussing and solving problems in theory research and application based on predecessors'achievements. As the base of chaos research, this dissertation simply illustrates definition, characters, analysis methods and depiction parameters of chaos. In consideration of the significance of Lyapunov exponent (LE) in chaos analysis and application, this dissertation introduces calculating methods of largest Lyapunov exponent of chaos system; carries out a calculating method of LE based on Wolf method and analyses LE of significant chaos systems.Considering engineering application, this dissertation introduces several circuit realization methods of chaos systems, and proposes a way of making chaos out of nonlinear non-chaos system with periodic parameter modulation. Theory analysis, numeral simulation and LE calculation demonstrate its feasibility and validity. A new chaos circuit is proposed based on this method. In chaos application, this dissertation illustrates research level and technical ways of chaos encryption and secure communication; proposed a chaos sequence encryption method and further demonstrates it by encrypting an image. A chaotic synchronization secure communication simulation is also accomplished. With a project background, this dissertation proposes a chaos generation algorithm based on TMS320C6711 DSP platform. A chaos signal is successfully generated by DSP simulation and realization, which provides a basis for further development of chaos secure communication and chaos encryption.
