Greenbelt is an important component of the ecosystem in a city, as it plays a vital role in beautifying landscape, cleaning atmosphere, improving environmental quality, maintaining ecological equilibrium of a city, and promoting physical and sentimental health of city residents. In order to elaborate the main components and the changes and the releasing characteristics of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from common aromatic plant in Shenzhen, and discuss its role of the landscape trees in cleaning atmosphere, inhibiting the growth of airborne microorganisms, and caring health, this research had investigated the components and the contents of the VOCs from 8 kinds of common aromatic plant in Shenzhen, as well as its season and the space and time dynamic change has carried on the determination, by using photochemistry ecology, plant physiology ecology, ecology, botanical garden plant disposition study etc. and multi-disciplinary overlapping research technique, and combining with Solid phase micro extract/Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (SPME/GC/MS) analysis technology. The main conclusion is as following:1. The constituents, concentration, and seasonal changes of the VOCs were analyzed from the 8 kinds of common aromatic plant in Shenzhen, the 8 kinds of common aromatic plant was as following: Cymbopogon citrates, Michelia alba, Ocimum basilicum, Thymus serpyllum, Lavandula multifida, Cinnamomum camphora Linn.Presl, Murraya PanicuataJack, Mentha spicata and Jasminum sambac,. The VOCs were a mixture of a number of micro-quantity VOCs in various concentrations and proportions. Their release and variability depended heavily on growth season of their releasers, as well as environmental conditions. That is, aromatic plants released more VOCs in June and September than in March and December.2. In the 8 kinds of common aromatic plant in Shenzhen, fragrant phytosterins, aldehyde and lipid releasing dynamic characteristics was related to molecular saturated degree, among which the releasing dynamic characteristics of the alkenes compound was closely to the molecular structure.3. The releasing dynamic characteristics of the plant VOCs was related to the plant own factor and each kind of environment factors and their combined action. Not only plant own factor decided the VOCs composition, but also affected the VOCs releasing intensity; The environment factor influenced the plant VOCs releasing intensity, but had different influence on the VOCs releasing intensity of different kinds of plant.4. When choosing a city forestation plant, it must be not only considered the plant the landscape ecology effect and the compatibility, but also considered the plant chemistry ecology effect, the reasonable application and the disposition of the botanical garden plants could be obtained. The species tree with high content of releasing alkenes compound should be the common choice tree seed which the city afforests as it can alleviate intensely, have promoted the occupant physical and moral integrity function. It was suggested that peppermint, the fragrant camphor tree etc. were panted in the community and in the work area a forestation to the human body health, and the lavandula spice was more suitable for planted in the residential where the citizen daily centralized, at the same time, several kinds of aromatic plant being planted reasonable dispositions can not only strengthen the visual effect, but also can play a certain health caring role.
