At present, the rapid development of remote sensing technology promotes the commercial satellite imagery's development. The successful launch of IKONOS satellite is the sign of the commercial high resolution satellite era.The spatial data acquisition technology based on the high resolution satellite imagery is a key direction of the current remote sensing domain.The image geometrical model of high resolution satellite is the foundation and linchpin of image process.In this paper the image geometrical model of high resolution satellite is studied deep by using IKONOS stereo images, carried on the theoretical analysis and the experimental study emphatically on many kinds of space orientation model.The work has following several aspects:1. The image medanism of IKONOS stereo images is analyzed, and the data characteristic is elaborated.2. The principle and technique of several kinds of common space orientation model is described and analyzed.3. The rational function model is studied systematically; the method of three dimensional localization is summarized based on the rational function model; the method's serviceability is tested by using IKONOS stereo images with IDL language programming. It is showed that rational function model leading role in the second order; with no ground control points, the plane precision is approximate 3 meters, the elevation precision is appromimate 3 meters.4. Compensation models are given for the system error. It is showed that the location accuracy of IKONOS is enhanced remarkably.5. Based on the generalized point photogrammetry theory, the application method of straight line characteristic in the remote sensing imagery space orientation is discussed, and tested with IKONOS stereo images.The methods in this paper could be used for reference to mid-west area of our contry to carry on high accuracy geography data acquisition and big scale mapping using high resolution satellite imagery.
