"Digital earth" is not a tool to simply make the information of earth digital, it is the access to cognize the earth system science, and build a new subject field of providing information service for natural harmony and social economic development, so the DEP (Digital Earth platform) means the extension and implementation of DE.With the appearance of DE (Digital Earth) and application of DEP (Digital Earth platform) , the digital and informational trend have brought about the development of Goble Sciences and Information Sciences. Based on G/S (Geo-Browser/Spatial Information Server) model, the DEP solved several problems in DE with the development of information technology, and the advanced technology and features of DEP displayed the characteristic of geo-information platform.With the High-tech developing and the promotion of digital seismic demands,more and more new technology and High-tech industry are needed. in the New Period, digital seismic technology has been set higher requirements by Chinese seismic research developing,"digital engineering"building,the birth of spatial information technology and Cross application of related technology.Under the requirement of earthquake and "digital seismic", the use of high-performance DEP has became an important path to the development of the industry. Based on G/S mode, the DEP is the most effective model of EIP (Earthquake Information Platform).It expresses the seismic information and serves the industry applications exactly and rapidly. Furthermore this platform completed the data management and resource sharing.This paper based on the G/S mode and DEP, designed and realized a new seismic information platform. The author described the digital earth and digital earth platform and their difference, deeply studied and analyzed their theory,characteristics, technical system and research significance in this paper. Based on G/S the characteristic of digital earth platform is summarized by comparative researching and analysis with traditional network model. Taking the example of Wenchuan 8.0 earthquake ,using the features of DE and DEP,the EIP was studied and analyzed the function and features of EIP in application field. In addition,the digital development and application of seismic information are finished.
