By observation of the outcropping profile, description and analysis of the drill samples, interpretation and multidisciplinary analysis of seismic data and well logging data, and by doing comprehensive research for the characterization of oil geology, the basin structural evolution, the faulted zone, and the depositional history, the further exploration strategy will get enough foundation. There is new understanding of the oil geology characterization in the research area through the information of three wells Jia-D1, Jia-D2 and Jia-D3 in Sunwu-Jiayin basin. There does detailed analysis of the geochemical behavior of hydrocarbon source rocks in Sunwu-Jiayin basin in use of this information. The abundance of organic matter of the Cretaceous bed set (mainly the Taoqihe set and the Yongancun set) in Sunwu-Jiayin basin is relatively high, the mixed type of organic matter is vegetal. These sets have entered the low mature– mature stage, and they are more important hydrocarbon bed set which have great hydrocarbon potential. The characterization that this basin has rich palaeophyte and restore– weak restore lacustrine sedimentation water body and depositional environment is revealed by probing into the biomarker and depositional environment. By analysis of the reservoir characterization in this area, it can be seen that the main reservoir of Sunwu-Jiayin basin is development at the Taoqihe set, the Yongancun set, and the Taipinglinchang set, it also can be seen that the physical property of conglomerate in Taoqihe set is relatively good, which is the I and III type good reservoir. With the increase in depth, the physical property of conglomerate in Taoqihe set has the trend of reduce. The porosity and permeability of the reservoir are better, which have a strong ability to reserve oil and gas.The resources in the research area are recalculated, and the hydrocarbon volume and the hydrocarbon accumulation of hydrocarbon source rocks are calculated in this paper. The through-going characterization of hydrocarbon generation intensity of source rocks in this area and the distribution rule of prospective resources are on study.According to the geology characterization of the fault depression in Sunwu-Jiayin basin, this paper chooses the geochemical method to calculate the resources of the Xunke depression in Zhanhe fault depression, the Jieliehe depression and Wulaga depression in Jiayin fault depression. By the basis of the hydrocarbon volume calculation, according to the geologic analogue, and by choosing the appropriate migration and accumulation coefficient, the prospective resources of oil and gas in the research basin (fault depression) can be calculated. The result is that there are 0.74×10~8 ton oil resources and 46.91×10~8 cubic meter gas resources in the Xunke depression, and there are 1.21×10~8 ton oil resources and 138.05×10~8 cubic meter gas resources in the Jiayin depression.
