Based on the theory of wave propagation in random media, ionospheric irregularity effects on the radio propagation and the inversion of irregularity drift velocity have been studied in this dissertation. According to the international reference ionosphere IRI2001 model, the ionospere plasma data of antarctic Zhongshan station are obtained, and based on these data, the statistical second-order statistics of radio propagation through the turbulent ionosphere are investigated theoretically and numerically in detail by using an analytic solution to the two-frequency and two-position mutual coherence function. Both the coherence distance and coherence bandwidth are discussed. The parabolic equation is solved with the Rytov approximation and Markov approximation, the scintillation index of the electromagnetic wave propagating in the ionosphere is deduced, and the characteristic parameters of the ionospheric irregularities are discussed in detail. The results are also compared with the results of the satellite observations. Finally, by analyzing the intensity frequency power spectra, the drift velocity is inversed, and the results are also verified and compared to those given in the relative references.
