It's the roller compacted concrete dams were constructed by thin layer and there are time interval between the layers, which made its structural characteristics be quite different from conventional concrete dams. The layer by layer way made a large number of horizontal layers existed in the dams, which made lots of weak side between the layers. Binding characteristics of the layers were constrained and influenced by many factors, such as time interval between the layers, Material properties, properties of construction machine, weather condition and construction management and so on. Cementation condition of the layers Affect the behavior of the dam directly. So the research and analysis of mechanical behavior of the layers on roller compacted concrete dam is the key of overall structure behavior assessment and analysis. To solve the above problem, this article did the following:1 Three batches of wedge splitting specimens were made with different time intervals: 2h, 6h and 24h. All the specimens with a dimension: 500mm×500mm×200mm. We adopted different approaches on the bonding site of the layers.2. There were two different methods of the loading way: to maintain the mechanical load then impose water pressure and maintain water pressure impose mechanical load. The former, mechanical load maintained at 1kN, 2kN and 3kN to impose water pressure until the specimen damage, the latter, water pressure, which were maintained at 0.1MPa, 0.15MPa and 0.2MPa to impose mechanical load until the specimen cracks. There are also separate pieces of mechanical load and simple water pressure test specimen as a contrast. In this paper, pressure sealing device was described in detail.3. Non-hydraulic-pressure specimens were tested before the hydraulic pressure specimens. The result was analyzed by the double-K theory. The initial crack load and the unsteady crack load were calculated.4. We fitted the water pressure with the initial crack load and the unsteady crack load and got the value of initial crack water pressure and the unsteady crack water pressure.
