Shanxi Province(Northern China)is rich in in Late Paleozoic rugose corals. In the present paper the Carboniferous and Permian rugose coral fauan is described from the central and southeastern Shanxi Province. Five genus, including 11 species, are illustrated here. They are Lophocarinophyllum pulchrum Ding, 1985, L. yakovlevi Fomitchev, 1941, L.hippocrepiforme Ding, 1985, L. karpinskyi Fomitchev 1953, L.stereothecatum Ding, 1985, Caninophyllum dobrolyubovae Yakovlev, 1903, C.zhoujiazhuangense Ding, 1985, Pseudotimania shanxiensis Ding, 1985, P.yangquanensis Ding, 1985, Gshelia rouilleri Stuckenberg, 1888 and Cyathocarinia lingchuanensis Ding, 1985.According to morphological characteristics of coral fossils and the sedimentary characteristics of output strata, combined with palaeogeography and paleoecology of Late Paleozoic in Shanxi province, the founa is considered to live in a muddy epicontinental sea in the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian...
