With the deterioration of the environment and the increase of human engineering, geological disasters have caused more and more damage to people's lives and property, and also to economy. Landslides hazards have been gradually put on the agenda with the risk assessment and governance. After a comprehensive analysis of regional landslide risk assessment of previous studies in this field, this paper, based on a geological project, chooses Ailaoshan area in Yunnan Province as the study area, establishes the model of regional landslide risk assessment, and carries out an empirical analysis for the study area.Based on the comprehensive analysis of the literature at home and abroad, the paper summarizes the current trend of regional landslide assessment study, and points out the work that still can be improved. The regional landslide risk assessment theory in the 2nd part specifies these concepts of regional landslide hazard, vulnerability and risk, and establishes the importance of the assessment of the potential landslide hazard and vulnerability.Ailaoshan geological condition and its socio-economic background have been studied. Using the collected information of the landslide sample, the landslide distribution characteristics and the relationship between landslides and their affecting factors have been identified. Based upon this analysis, the index system for regional landslide hazard is created, and a hazard assessment model based on Logistic Regression is established. At the same time, the landslide vulnerability assessment model is also created, which, according to the limited data, can only make a rough estimation to the vulnerability.Based on the model above, an empirical analysis is conducted through the study area. Through a learning process of iteration with both the basic factors and the inducing factors, an appropriate assessment model for regional landslide hazard has been set up. With this model, the value of hazard probability for all the 4561 grids in the study area has been calculated. Similarly, the vulnerability of these grids can also be calculated with the vulnerability model. And with the help of MapGIS the risk assessment zoning map can be produced.
