The paper is an overview about the discontinuous methods for the wave equation. First, we introduce the history of the wave equation and some numerical methods for it, that is to say, the difference method and the finite element method. In the following, we discuss the history and current research of DG method which is well known as an efficiency method in solving the wave equation numerically. At last, we take the following second order wave equation as an example to discuss semidiscrete DG method for solving it, the convergence and the error estimation are also considered here.
