Chemosensors have attracted great interesting of scientists because of its high sensitivity and selectivity. Aromatic azobenzene compounds can be used as chemical sensors for detection of metal cations, anions, and some organic compounds due to the change of some physical properties, such as UV-vis and Fluorescence spectra. A great deal of azo compounds have been synthesized and investigated in order to find some great chemical sensors.Diazonium salt is an important kind of non-silver photographic material, which was widely used in print, xerox and photographic plate because of its easy synthesis and unexpensive price. There are two parts in this dissertation. In the first part, A series of new aromatic azobenzene compounds have been synthesized via diazo coupling reaction, and the structure of the compounds were characterized by element analysis, IR,1H-NMR, MS and UV-vis spectra. The intensity or the maxima position of the absorption spectra of the aromatic azobenzene compounds changed significantly after the interaction with metal ions, which make it a kind of potential sensoring materials for the detection of the metal ions.In the second part, the synthesis of five benzenediazonium chloride SnCl4 complexes or benzenediazonium zinc chloride complexes were reported and the structure were characterized by UV-vis and 1H NMR spectra. The synthetic conditions were optimized in order to incease the solubility above 2% of them in water. In addition, the stability of the title compounds under the radiation of 350 nm light with an intensity of 456μW/cm2 and the temperature of 150℃was studied.
