As an ideal two-dimensional nano-material, graphene receives much concern for its excellent properties. To achieve its application, modification of graphene oxide is mainly studied in this paper. Besides, its application in epoxy nanocomposites is also explored. Using natural graphite as raw material, graphite oxide is prepared by modified Hummers method. Then through ultrasonication graphene oxide is prepared. On this basis, graphene oxide is functionalized by sulfonic and amino group through modification, and the corresponding epoxy composites are prepared. In addition, the dispersion stability of dodecylamine functionalized graphene oxide and its reduction in various solvents is studied. XRD, TGA, FT-IR, Raman, SEM and other testing methods are used to characterize the prepared materials. The main results are as follows:(1) Through modification, sulfonic and amino groups are successfully attached to the surface of graphene or graphene oxide. The sulfonic graphene can be dispersed stably in water; during the modification, graphene oxide is partially reduced by the amine.(2) The amino functionalized graphene oxide is added to epoxy resin as dispersed phase and the epoxy composites are prepared. Compared with pure epoxy resin, the epoxy composites have bigger elastic modulus and tensile strength.(3) The dodecylamine functionalized graphene oxide can be dispersed in DMF, DMA, NMP, THF, toluene, xylene and cyclopentanone and keeps stable for long time. After reduction, it can be dispersed homogeneously in DMF, DMA, NMP and cyclopentanone.
