Polyvinyle chloride (PVC) is one of the five most popular plastics. But its wide application is restricted because of its poor thermal stability. In this case, thermal stabilizers are necessary to prevent PVC from decomposing during processing. Antimony stabilizer with advantages of no toxicity, low cost and good thermal stability has been developed as a new type of thermal stabilizer these days. However, its preparation technology is not green environment protection and a number of organic antimony stabilizers with antimony to sulfur to carbon (Sb-S-C) bonds are unstable to moisture and UV light. In this paper, in order to overcome these shortcomings, the following works have been done:1,Antimony tri(isooctyle thioglycollate)(ATOT) was synthesized from antimony trioxide and isooctyle thioglycollate in aqueous medium. UV light and thermal stability of ATOT were researched by UV lamp Test Chamber(UTC) and HAAKE Polylab OS Torque Rheometer(HAAKE). The results showed that ATOT was unstable to UV light, but its resistance to UV light was improved when 1.2% UV-531 was added. The thermal stability of ATOT to PVC was reduced after being exposed to UV light, while adding 1.2% UV-531 made no significant change of the thermal stability of ATOT to PVC.2,Antimony pent (isooctyle thioglycollate)(APOT) was synthesized from antimony pentoxide and isooctyle thioglycollate in aqueous medium. UV light and thermal stability of APOT were studied by UTC and HAAKE. The results showed that UV light stability of APOT was better than ATOT in a certain exposure time, while decomposition was inevitable when it was expoused to UV light for a long time. APOT showed good thermal stability and the thermal stable time of PVC was 1569s when 5 phr (per hundred resin) APOT was added in PVC.3,A new type of thermal stabilizer—antimony mono-2-ethylhexyl maleate(AMEM) was synthesized, which has excellent UV light stability. Its thermal stability was researched through HAAKE. The results showed that AMEM possessed excellent thermal stability for PVC resin. When added 2.5 phr in PVC, the thermal stable time was 1264s. Furthermore, the synergistic effects of AMEM with calcium stearate, zinc stearate, methyltin, 4-tert-butylcatechol have been studied. The results showed that calcium stearate, zinc stearate and 4-tert-butylcatechol had no synergistic effects with AMEM, while methyltin had positive synergistic effect.
