As the welding process is complex and variable, it is difficult to evaluate , even to forecast accurately the distribution of welding residual stress and distortion about the large welding joint used on ocean platform. With the development of the computer technology, numerical simulation is widely used in welding field to predict the welding residual stress and deformation, and what's more to guide the design of welding proceed. Using the traditional analysis of the welding process, analysts had to get comprehensive information systems, like the finite element analysis, welding knowledge, program skill and so on. Meanwhile, the traditional method aimed to solve certain kind of problem, which means the analysts needs to reworked or modify the programs if the working condition, or even the form of welding joint has changed. Undoubtedly, those disadvantages prevent the numerical simulation further used in industry. In order to avoid such dilemma, a completed system about the simulation of welding residual stress and deformation is composed to be established. Based on the second development of ANSYS, the system will package the whole process of analysis. Though a simply way, selecting the welding joint form, inputting the actual size and welding condition, the user can get an accurate result.Though the second development of the ANSYS, which is based on the VC6.0 platform and APDL language, a friendly finite element analysis system used to solve welding problem is established. The system encapsulated the analytic process of many different kinds of welding joint form, like flat butt, T joint, pile leg racks and so on. Through friendly and directly interface, designers can easily analyses the welding process. Consequently, the user can use the results given by the system, to forecast and evaluation of the welding residual stress as well as the deformation. Compared with the experimental results, the system we had discussed in this paper turned out to be accurate and reliable.
