Pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid(H2DPC) possess biological active in the body of the animal and plant. Its derivatives and complexes were extensively and deeply studied and were used to all sorts of fields. But very little discussions were reported in our country.Three crystals of different structures were synthesized by using H2DPC and the transition metal salts. The crystal structures have been determined by X-ray diffraction method, which show that the new complex(l) [Co(l)( DPC)2-Co(2)(0H2)s] belongs to the bridging binuclear complex and the system of monoclinic with space group P211~,unit cell parameters a8.3850(10)A, b=27.386(4) A, c=9.610(2) A, ~ =98.280(10) ~,V=2 183.8(6) A3 , Z=4, Dc=l.746Mg/m3, ~i =l.597mm', F(000)=1168, Final R=O.0253 and wR=O.0610 S1.009 ,The two Co2~ are in distorted octahedrons. The part of [(DPC)2Co(l)] possess an approximate D2d symmetry, while the part of [OCo(2)(0H2)5] has an approximate C2 symmetry. Complexes(2) and(3) are [Co(HDPC)2]3H0 and [Ni(HDPC)2] . 3H20 expressing in structural formula. They are similar in structure and belong to the some crystal system and space group: monoclinic, P211~ ,unit cell parameters [Co(HDPA)2] . 3H20 , a13.857(2)A, b10.0930(lO)A, c13.690(2)A, ~8=1l5.800(1O)~ ,V=1723.8(4) A3, z=4, Dc=l.7l5Mg/m3,u=l.062mm , Fe(000)908, final R=0.0323, ~ R=O.0885, 5=0.984; [Ni(HPPA)2] . 3H20, a13.670(2) A, b10.043(l0) A c1 3.767(2)A, ,~ =115.140, V'l 711 .0(4)A3 Z=4,Dc=1 .727Mg/rn3. ,a =1.201mm' ,F(000)=912 ,final R0.0288, wR=0.0798, S1.013.H2DPC is a tridentate ligand. Two monoanionics (HDPC) provide respectly one N and tow 0 coordinating with metal ion, which the HDPC planes mutually perpendicular. Some hydrogen bonds exist in the complexes (2) and (3), which form three-dimensional network.The reactions of H2DPC, metal ions (Co2~ ,Ni>, Cu2~) with 1.1 0-Phenanthroline(phen) or 8-Hydroxyquinoline(HOx) gave the four ternary complexes. Through the test of elemental analysis, molar conductivity, infrared spectra, and thermal analysis. The composition of complexes can be Co(Ox)L . 4.SH,O, Cu(Ox)L . 4H20 and M(phen)L 3.5H2O(M2Ni2~,Co2'~LDPC2).
