Simulation Study and Application of the Submerged Entry Nozzles in Mold at Chonggang Slab Continuous CastersABSTRACTThe liquid steel flow behaviors in the slab continuous casting mold include the circulate status of liquid steel, the depth and strength of the fluid impacting the narrow wall, level disturbance, surface flow rate and so on. An unreasonable liquid steel flow behaviors have an effect on inclusion flotation, bubble distribution, liquid mold flux fluid capability and spreadability, shell growth, etc. Thereby controlling the liquid steel flow behaviors in the slab continuous casting mold play an important role in attaining a better slab quality and production process performance of continuous caster. In this paper the objects were the slab continuous casting molds of Chongqing Iron & Steel CO., which sections are 170X llOOmnA 210 X 1300 mm2 and 240 X 1400 mm2. A numerical and physical simulation were performed for the liquid steel flow behaviors in the molds with consideration of the effects of submerged entry nozzle size, casting speed, immersion depth and air-blowing quantity of nozzle, etc. At the same time, the level fluctuation and flow state of the liquid steel in the mold were investigated. Optimized submerged entry nozzles (SEN) and technology parameters were selected for slab continuous casters to meet need of slab sections and casting speeds, which were applied in practice and proved good.
