Pervaporation Of Methanol From Methanol/MTBE Mixture Using CA And Its Modified Membranes

Pervaporation can be used in the field of dehydration of organics and the field of separating organic mixtures boiled together or nearly boiled which traditional separations can't separate easily. In this paper, some kinds of membranes, CA membrane, CA-P VAc (poly vinyl acetate) blended membrane and CA-EVA (ethylene-co-ethylene acetate) composite membrane were prepared and used for methanol removal from MTBE (methyl t-butyl ether). By studying on these different membranes, it was expected to find out the rules of membrane formation and to prepare excellent membranes.Firstly, in the research, the swell ability of different membranes for methanol/MTBE was tested. The results indicated that CA could be used for methanol removal from MTBE, but the EVA couldn't be used alone. Different CA materials have different separating performance, and CA3 is used as the primary material synthesizing all complication. The CA-PVAc (poly vinyl acetate) blended membrane was prepared and measured, but it didn't have very well separating performance. And CA-EVA composite membrane also was prepared, and its performance was better than CA membrane.Secondly, in this paper, the casting solvents were investigated in detail; also it was found that the properties of dilute solutions affect the membrane performance. The opposite relationships between viscosity slope coefficients (b) and permeation flux (I) were due to the casting solvents. The separation performance was improved by adjusting the casting solvents. In the end, trying to improve the separating properties of membranes, the membranes were marinated in solvents and solutions. It was found that the properties of the membranes were improved.
