19 strains of Yeasts were isolated from the koumiss samples of Inner Mongolia. According to these strains'morphology and physiological characteristics,they belonged to 8 gunus:En -domyces,lodderomyces,Pichia,Torulaspora,Kloeckera,Saccha-romycodes,Brettanomyces and pachytichospora.1 strain could not be identified because of its special morphology and physiological characteristics.Antibacterial characteristics was evaluated with E.coli,Str.aureus,listeria and Tub.bacillus being the indicator strains. 5 strains could inhibit E.coli'growth.Among them,there were also 2 strains could show antibacterial characteristics on Tub.bacillus. Since only the supernatant of the fermentation liquid had the antibacterial characteristics,the rough samples of antibacterial substance of 5 strain could be extracted using the ethyl ether.Also the rough samples showed the Antibac-terial activities.
