The most important characteristic of eyeglass processing wastewater is its high concentration of colloids and suspending solids, and coagulation sedimentation is one of the most effective ways to treat this water. Various analysis means including chemical analysis, laser beam particle diameter distribution analyzer and ?potential measurement are used in this paper to determine the characteristics of eyeglass processing wastewater of NO. 608 Factory. On these bases, the removal efficiency of organic polymer coagulant polyacrylamide (PAM), inorganic coagulant A12(SO4)3 and especially inorganic polymer coagulant polyaluminum chloride(PAC) with different basicity was studied. Among them, PAC with 60% of basicity has the best removal efficiency for this wastewater. In further experiments, the effects of various factors on the treatment were studied and optimal process parameters were determined. To treat the wastewater using PAC with 60% of basicity, the optimal dosage is 6. 0 mg/L (counted in the concentration of A12O3), the optimal time for sedimentation is 70 minutes, and the optimal pH is 7-8. Under these conditions, the effluent turbidity is 2. 94 NTU, its removal rate is 99. 32%; COD in the effluent is 91.49 mg/L, its removal rate is 87.00%. After treatment, the effluent can be discharged according with the national standard ( GB8978-1996) , or be used as reclaimed water. The means of laser beam particle diameter analyzer, C potential measurement and scan electronic microscope were also used to discussthese results from electro-chemical feature and coagulation mechanism. Primary design for the treatment of wastewater of NO. 608 Factory has been made on the basis of these studies. Devices selection, budgetary estimation and economic efficiency evaluation have also been made. The results show that the project is feasible and the benefit is greater than the cost.
