The application of lanthanide compounds in organic synthesis has been attracted more attention. It's benefit to develop further the high selective reaction catalyzed by lanthanide compounds. In this thesis some organic reactions, such as cyclotrimerization of nitriles, condensation of nitriles with diamines and Aldol-Tishchenko reaction of butanal, catalyzed by lanthanide compounds were studied. It consists of the following three sections:1. The cyclotrimerization of aromatic nitriles catalyzed by different samarium(II) complexes was studied. It was found that samarium(II) complexes can effectively catalyze the cyclotrimerization of aromatic nitriles under mild conditions to give the corresponding substituted-s-triazines in moderate to good yields. The effects of reaction temperature, reaction time and amount of catalyst on the reaction were examined.2. The condensation of various nitriles with ethylenediamine or 1,3-diaminopropane catalyzed by SmI2 was investigated. It's found that SmI2 can effectively catalyze the reaction to give the corresponding of 2-substituted-4,5-dihydropyimidazole or 2-substituted-1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine in good yields. All the products have been characterized by 'HNMR , elementalanalyses and MS.3. Aldol-Tishchenko reaction of butanal catalyzed by various lanthanide complexes was studied. Most of the lanthanide complexes studied were found to be the effective catalysts for Aldol-Tishchenko reaction of butanal to give the trimer of butanal in moderate to good yields under mild conditions.
