The oxidation ditch system in Handan waste watertreatment plant (WWTP) is the first triple oxidation ditch system (T-OD) treating municipal wastewater in China, which was studied in this paper. Investigations on influence of environmental factors and the method of operation on COD, nitrogen, phosphorus removal in system were carried out in the field. By the comparisons of the simulated results with those of measurement in the field, it can be seen that the concentrations of organic matter in the triple oxidation ditch process can be estimated using the Monod-type kinetic model. Industrial wastewater has great influence on the bioactivity of treatment unit, and the tannery wastewater, dye-printing wastewater, and distillery wastewater were studied in this paper based on the bench scale experiments which simulated the operation of triple oxidation ditch. The experiment results showed that the dye-printing wastewater has the greatest influence on the microbe of the unit.
