To separate the residua of microorganisms and resume the growth environment of floe-forming bacteria, it would be possible to control filamentous bulking. The experiment include two parts and two completely conventional activated sludge treatment systerms(the systerm one and the systerm two). In systerm two, electrolytic floatation facilities is installed between aeration basin and sediment basin. The aim is to remove residua of organisms and resume the growth environment of floe-forming bacteria. If it were possible to selectively separate residua from activated sludge, it would be possible to control filamentous bulking. The systerm one is a comparent activated sludge treatment systerms. On the first part, on the systerm one, DC voltage is 3V. Two electrode plates are made from stainless steel and produce hydrogen and oxygen bubbles. These bubbles contact the residua of organisms and are sent up to surface to solid and liquid separating. Flotation time is 3 hours. The experiment carried out 46 days at the same time. On the second part, the influent have glucose and N andP(C:N:P=100:5:1). Flotation time is 3 hours. The experiment carried out 19 days.On the first part, activated sludge obtained from the aeration basin of hexi zhong xi bu wastewater treatment plant. On the second part, activated sludge obtained from the aeration basin of the first part.In the two experiments and the two activated sludge treatment systerms applicable the sample were subjected to following analysis: Sludge Volume(SV), Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids(MLSS), Sludge Volume Index(SVI), Filamentous length, Filamentous identification, Dissolve oxygen(DO), Temperature( T) and pH0Through drawing, contrasting and analysising experiment data. The result proved that on two parts, the SVI of systerm one of all experiment ieep stable, while the SVI at the fore stage of the systerm two keep stable but at the back stage the SVI is higher and higher with time increasing. At last the systerm two leads to the filamentous bulking. The experiment confirm that if it were possible to selectively separate residua from activated sludge, it would be possible to control filamentous bulking. Installing floatation facilities is able to remove residua of organisms, resume the normal growth of floe-forming bacteria, keep growth balance between floe-forming bacteria and filamentous bacteria and control filamentous bulking.
