Based on the analysis of several QI determination standard of the impregnating pitch at home and ahroad, the suitability of QI determination standard in China for the impregnating pitch had been comparatively studied. There were many problems in Chinese determination standard. The cause resulting in these differences were analyzed. Some suggestions on drawing up Chinese standard of Ql determination of the impregnating pitch had been offered.The rheologic behavior of the impregnating pitch and binder pitch was comparatively studied. It had been illustrated that the viscosity determination play an important role in evaluating operational performance of impregnant. The characteristics of viscosity variation of the impregnating pitch were explained.The permeability of the impregnating pitch and binder pitch was comparatively studied. The permeability of impregnating pitch was evidently higher than that of binder pitch. It was shown that the QI component containing in coal-tar pitch is main factor to influence the permeability of impregnating pitch, The modification treatment of impregnating pitch had been performed by means of addition of the stearic acid and oleic acid. Effect of additives content on the softening point, viscosity and coking value of impregnating pitch had been Studied. It was shown that a few of additives could effectively modify the theological behavior of impregnating pitch. The optimum additive content and impregnation temperature of the modified impregnating pitch had been found out. The permeability of the impregnating pitches modified by the stearic acid and oleic acid were comparatively studied. It was shown that two kinds of additives could greatly enhance the high temperature permeabil i ty of impregnating pitch. The appl ication of mod if ied impregnat i ng pitch could evidently improve the impregnation efficiency and product performance.
