The paper summarizes in detail application and grinding characteristics of difficult-to-grind material, and the research works, applying area, advantages and disadvantages of some electrical-mechanical combined machining means for difficult-to-grind materials in home and abroad. For increasing the grinding efficiency of difficult-to-grinding material, the paper has proposed a new discharge-electrolysis discontinuous combined grinding machining means. The paper has proposed the theory of new means and discussed the mechanism and feasibility of new means.The paper study grinding characteristics and changes of the heat-resistant alloy continuous grinding with CBN wheel and discontinuous grinding with slotted CBN wheel, and the effects caused by grinding parameters. The special working electrode -slotted CBN grinding wheel, combined electrical dressing pulse electrical source and working fluid of the experiment needing have been developed or selected in the paper. The paper researches the mechanism of discharge-electrolysis combined machining, and the effects caused by electric machining parameters. Under the same experimental conditions, the comparison experiment has processed between the new method and continuous grinding method with CBN wheel. Experimental results show that the new method is valid to raise the grinding efficiency of difficult-to-grind material, and moreover, grinding quality has decreased a little. The new method is a high grinding efficiency means for these difficult-to-grind materials, and it can be applied to rough machining or finish machining.By experiment on new method, the influences of some factors to grinding force, temperature, efficiency and grinding quality are analyzed. These factors are grinding parameters, electric parameters and slot parameters of wheel. The analysis results show, under the conditions of the parameters chosen in this paper, the grinding efficiency is high, but isn't most ideal. If experiment condition is viable, more experiments should carry on optimizing parameters. So new method can achieve higher grinding efficiency. The new discharge-electrolysis discontinuous combined machining means is ahigh grinding efficiency method for these difficult-to-grind materials. The new method and new technique proposed in this paper is of great technical and economical significance.
