Chelating or complex resin especially the aminomethylene phosphonic acid resin is one kind of the important ion-exchange resin being researched in recent years. The adsorption of a novel chelating resin, aminomethylene phosphonic acid resin, for rare earth ion europium was studied in the dissertation.Based on the review of the literature, the feasible analytical method and the suitable adsorption medium were selected for europium. The pH, statically saturated adsorption capacity and elution of aminomethylene phosphonic acid resin for europium were studied by using static method. On the other hand, the thermodynamic parameters were measured or determined. The adsorption rate constant k is 2.32× 10-5s-1, apparent activation energy Ea is 53.6kJ/mol and enthalpy change △His 41.0kJ/mol, respectively. The formation of chemical bond between APAR and Eu(Ⅲ) was studied by using equimolar series method and IR spectrometry. A probable structure of the complex was proposed. The feasibility of the use of APAR in industry was evaluated and itprovided the theoretical basis for molecular design and the synthesis of novel chelating resins.
