| Objective On the basis of briquette reducing SO2 air pollution, we researched its influence to biological indexes of population.Method Population intervention tests which lasting 18 months. Countrywomen whom used coal as their cooking fuel were chosen as experimental objects. Women in one group whom still burn coal as control group and women in the other group whom burn briquette as experiment group. There are six biological indexes were chosen as effect indexes. Comet expresses DNA damage degree in cells. MDA, GSH-PX and SOD reflect ability of anti-oxidation and get-rid-of-free-radicals of body. LYS reflects nonspecific immune function of organism. SA takes part in many physiological functions of cell surface. All indexes were measured three times in experiment period, and then were compared. All data were performed single factor and multivariate statistical analysis.Outcome The indoor SO2 concentration of burning briquette is lower than that of burning coal. In experiment group, its COMET and MDA are both lowered during experiment period. Its activity of SOD and GSH-PX have no significant changes, while its SA and LYS are significant higher than before intervention. Result of correlation analysis shows that briquette as cooking fuel has correlativity with COMET, MDA, GSH-PX, SOD, LYS and time. Result of stepwise regression analysis shows that DNA damage of cells is affected by LYS and SOD. If LYS or SOD rise, COMET will lower. Using briquette as cooking fuel could reduce DNA damage of cells. Results of Cluster analysis and factor analysis show that the first common factor reflect DNA damage of cells, the second one express the ability of anti-oxidation and the third one reflect condition of SA. Conclusion Using briquette as cooking fuel could improve function of anti-oxidation and nonspecific immune system and reduce DNA damage of cells. It is very important to decrease indoor SO2 pollution and maintain population health.
