The spontaneous combustion of coal seam is one of the major calamities in safe production of coal mine. The main factors of occurrence and development of coal self-ignition is the quantity of heat that is produced by coal spontaneously. Therefore, studying the coal exothermic property is the precondition of mastering the process of coal self-ignition, searching the law for it and developing coal seam fire prediction. In the paper, the research of characteristic parameters of coal spontaneous combustion is the precondition of coal seam fire prediction and disposal. Characteristic parameters of coal spontaneous combustion—exothermicity were researched to a certain extent by the methods of theoretical analysis, experiment simulation and development of application software. Therefore the research provides theoretics for coal exothermic property in factual condition. Characteristic parameters of coal spontaneous combustion were qualitatively studied and quantitatively determined by coal self-ignition experiment and programmed heat test experiment from two aspects:coal oxidation and exothermic which is produced by oxidation. Then influencing function between factual exothermicity of coal seam and limited exothermicity of coal seam in the condition of that coal temperature is not exceeded critical temperature of coal spontaneous combustion is put forward. As to the period of coal temperature exceeded critical temperature, the relations between factual exothermicity of coal seam and limited exothermicity of coal seam were analyzed by gray relevancy analysis of gray system. From these theories, numerical simulation in this stage is feasible and it is the basis of programmed heat test mechanism to simulate spontaneous combustion experiment oven of coal. In the paper, major effect factors of coal spontaneous combustion were studied by doing experiments of programmed heat test in different conditions repeatedly. Experimental research investigates three sides: particle size of coal, distributing particle size and quantity of oxygen providing which relate to characteristic parameters of coal spontaneous combustion, and connected with influencing function, limited exothermicity could deduce factual exothermicity of coal seam in any conditions. Because of using a lot of calculation tools in the process of experimental simulation, it influenced the speed of simulation badly. On the study of characteristic parameters of coal spontaneous combustion, computer technique implemented the process: put complicated data calculation on background then input parameters and output visualization results on the stage. The application of computer technique simplifies experimental simulation and accords with demands today.
