| In this paper, grafting of maleic anhydride (MAH) and glycidyl-methacrylate(GMA) onto polyolefin elastomer (POE) performed in melt state through mechanicalforce initiation by increasing the screw rotation speed of twin-screw extruder wasstudied. The effects of screw rotation speed, MAH and GMA content and graftingtemperature on the grafting level, melt flow index and gel content of the graftedproduct (POE-g-MAH and POE-g-GMA) was investigated. The results show thatcompared with the method of peroxide initiation, in this method the crosslinkingreaction can be prevented; the grafting level of POE-g-MAH amounts to 0.39%, itsmelt-flow index is between 0.5~4g/10min and its gel content is less than 0.3%; thegrafting level of POE-g-GMA amounts to a certain level, its melt-flow index isbetween 0.8~14.0g/10min. The effects of the grafted products on the mechanical properties and themorphology structure of the PA66/POE-g-MAH and PA66/POE-g-GMA blends werestudied by SEM and means of mechanical properties testing. The results show that thegrafted product (POE-g-MAH) can obviously improved the miscibility between PA66and POE, and obviously increased the Charpy notched impact strength of the blend.The charpy notched impact strength of PA66/POE-g-MAH blend is 12 times higherthan that of PA66 when the content of POE-g-MAH is 30%. And the Charpy notchedimpact strength of PA66/POE-g-GMA and PBT/POE-g-GMA blends were obviouslyimproved. Grafting of maleic anhydride (MAH) onto polyolefin elastomer (POE)performed in melt state through a compounded initiation by added a certain initiatorand increasing the screw rotation speed of twin-screw extruder was also studied. Theresults show that the crosslinking reaction can also be prevented, the grafting level ofPOE-g-MAH is higher than that of through peroxide initiation, which amounts to0.6~0.8%, its melt-flow index range is wider than that of one, which is between1.0~14g/10min and its gel content is less than 0.3%. The effects of the compounded initiation grafted products on the mechanical iproperties and the morphology structure of the PA66/POE-g-MAH blend were studied.The results show that the Charpy notched impact strength of thePA66/POE-g-MAHblend with the compounded initiation grafted product is higher than that of with theperoxide initiation's, which is 14 times higher than that of PA66 when thePOE-g-MAH content is 25%. |
