Silver catalyst is used in ethylene-epoxidation. It is very important to the production of ethylene oxide. High selectivity, high activity and good stability are the crucial factors to enhance yield of ethylene oxide, reduce cost and improve benefit. To promote the performance of silver catalyst, it's necessary to characterize it. This paper used in-situ FTIR, SEM, ICP-AES and so on to characterize the adsorption, surface form and elements composition of silver catalyst.The results are showed as follows.Lewis(Louis) acid sites exist on the surface of α-Alumina support and silver catalyst. Pyridine, the basic absorbate, can be adsorbed on its Lewis (Louis)acid sites. The concentration of Lewis acid sites on the surface of α-Alumina support decreased when silver was loaded on it. And the concentration of Lewis acid sites decreased sharply when Cs was introduced. Ethylene and carbon dioxide can't be adsorbed on the surface of silver catalyst, but they can be adsorbed when oxygen was adsorbed on the surface of silver catalyst. In addition, the surface form of silver catalyst also affects the performance of silver catalyst.
