Through the Sol-Gel process, we can make wood and SiO2 or other inorganic matter reunite on the molecule level, synthesizing the functions of the wood and SiO2 or other inorganic matters. After this study, we can draw some conclusion as followed:1). When using the TEOS acetic acid ethanol solution, the silica gels were found to be selectively formed within the cell walls and the amount of the gel formed was found to be higher for the specimens with higher moisture content of bound water . When applying the TEOS boric acid ethanol solution, the composites WPG are larger than former. But the moisture content of bound water has no significant effect on WPG of composites.2) The water absorptivity of wood/ SiO2 composites is smaller than untreated wood. The WPG of composites made by extracted wood is lager than the WPG of composites made by untreated wood.3) The dimension stable of wood/ SiO2 composites is improved. The water absorptivity of wood/ SiO2 composites that are added boric acid is getting small. But the dimension stable has no significant improvement.4) Through the oxygen index experiment, we found all these composites have the higher fire resistance. Among them, the boric acid and NH4H2PO4 were blended with certain rate will have the best result of fire resistance.5)From the SEM photograph of wood/inorganic composites, we find that, some gels are being in the pits and the ray of wood, others are being in the cell wall and tracheid. Other inorganic matters are mainly formed in tracheid. This explain that main passage gels permeate in the timber of is(1) By the tracheid in the longitudinal(2) By the ray of wood and pits pass the close tracheid in transverse direction...
