In contrast to rigid bipyridyl ligand, the cinformation, bidentate angle of flexible ligands are easily modified when self-assembly with metal ions. The influence of the environment conditions can alter the structure of the coordination polymers, thus, it is difficult to predict the structure of final complex. So they can construct various, novel supramoleculer structure and will open a new field of the supramoleculer chemistry.In the work, we have synthesized and characterized thirty-seven coordination polymers using flexible ligands sush as l,2-bis(l,2,4-triazol-l-yl)ethane and 1,2-bis (imidazole-l-yi)ethane and transition metal cations Co(II), Zn(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Mn(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), Ag(I) and Fe(II).In this dissertation, we only reported thirteen coordination polymers forming from bte (bte = l,2-bis(l,2,4-triazol-l-yl)ethane), namely, {[Zn(bte)2(H2O)2](NO3)2}n (1), {[Co(bte)2 (H2O)2](NO3)2}n (2), {[Co(bte)(H2O)2(NCO)2] 2H2O}n (3), {[Co(bte)2(NCO)2] H2O}n (4), [Co(bte)2(NCS)2]n (5), {[Co(bte)(H2O)2(NCS)2][Co(bte)2(NCS)2]}n (6), [Co(bte)(SCN)2]n (7), [Co(bte)2(dca)2]n (8), {[Co(bte)(dca)2] H2O}n (9), [Zn(dca)2(bte)2]n (10), [Zn(N3)2(bte)]n (11), {[Zn2(bte)2(phth)2](H2O)4}n (12) and {[Zn(bte)(terph)](H2O)2}n (13). They have been synthesized and characterized by elementary analyses, IR, thermogravi -metric analyses and X-ray diffraction analyses. Bte ligand has been synthesized and characterized by elementary analyses, IR and X-ray diffraction analyses, too. It shows the flexible ligand usually function as bridge to connect two centers and form one-dimensional chain structure, two-dimensional network structure, double-stranded chain or three-dimensional network structure. To form complexes in thermodynamic or kinetic steady, the flexible ligand may modify itself conformation. In the work, we also obtained different structure complexes by using different metal ions, synthesis methods, anion and solvent.
