The goaf in shrinkage mining, open-stope mining in metal and non-metal mines of China is not caved. So the surface subsidence and strata displacement is taken place, and brought about serious destruction. It is related with the sustainable development of mines directly. With the two great roof-fall accident of Pingyi gypsum mine, this paper analyzes the stability of pillars and roof system and the mechanism of destruction of pillars and roof. On the basis of slate theory and elastic and plastic mechanics theory, the critical area of slate is obtained by computer calculation. At the same time, many model is set up by applying the multi-medium three dimension boundary element numerical simulation system. Finally, the result is visible by writing Visual Basic program.The result of slate theory and elastic-plastic mechanics theory analysis and computer stimulation of multi-medium three dimension boundary element is alike. So two pillars is blasted once at a time, and reasonable blasting parameter is determined. Such as hole setting. At last, the feasibility of recovery work of dead reserve is bring about by comparing of technology and economy.
