Coal water slurry (CWS) is suspension of coal partials in water. The suspension contains about 70% coal, 30% water and appropriate amount of chemical additives. CWS has as excellent fluidity and stability as oil, and it would produce less SOX, NOX and CO on combustion because of the slightly lower flame temperature, at the same time, in comparison with the gasification and liquefaction technologies of coal, it desires simpler technics and lower cost. So it has better economic and social benefit. The rheological characteristics and viscosity are two significant properties in determining the quality of CWS, they depend on a number of factors. In all these factors, usage of the appropriate type and amount of chemical additives is necessary from various points of view. Such additives are essential for dispersion of the powder by breaking the aggregates and agglomerates, for stability against settling of the particles, and its price is the highest in the CWS except coal. In nowadays, the foremost question in production of CWS is that the price of additives is too high and theadaptability is not very good.In this experiment, using cracking C9 and acrylic acid as material, by polymering, sulphonating, sopanificatiing etc., we synthesized an inexpensive dispersant, investigated the effects on the process of reactions of the proportion of material, the reaction temperature and reaction time etc.; Recurring to the test of GC-MS, we confirmed the variety and content of active component in cracking C9; By the circle reaction of bulk free radial copolymerization with cracking C9 and acrylic acid in a given condition, we discussed the reaction activity of the primary active component in cracking C9.We made slurry using the single dispersant synthesized in this experiment, the evaluating result is similar to the NSF which is used most universally in nowadays. Though the dosage is a little more, the cost is lower than NSF. We could obtain better result if using multiple-dispersant, which could meet requirement of industry application.
