Activated carbon fibers(ACF), the third generation of activated carbon, are used as a high effective adsorbent in polluted water and atmosphere treatment. The excellent adsorption properties of ACF and fundamental knowledge about adsorption were reported introducing of preparation process, porosity and surfacial chemical structure of ACF. In this article, the sorption performance of Pentachlorophenol and nitrophenol by ACF was studied, the method was applied to factual waste water treatment and gives satisfactory results. The determination methods of Pentachlorophenol and nitrophenol were considered respectively. The linear range and standard curve were also studied.Characteristics of adsorption-desorption of PCP were investigated in ACF. The results showed that isotherm adsorption of PCP was best described by Langmuir and Freundlich equations ,of which the correlation coefficient was above 0.98 and the average adsorption capacity was about 132.4mg/g. After the adsorption process of 200mg/L PCP-containing waster water, the quality of the water can attain to the first class national standerd of discharge, and the poisonous material can be recycled. After adsorption-desorption for three times, the adsorption capacity has no significant change and the recovery for PCP is about 90%.The treatment of factual nitrophenol-containing waste water by surface modified ACF was tested. The results showed that the adsorption capacity was about 663.7mg/g, which is 8~9 times than GAC. The adsorption of nitrophenol on ACF is reversible and the adsorption and desorption speed are very fast. After the adsorption process of factual polluted water, the quality of the water can attain to the first class national standard of discharge, and the recovery is large than 90%, which can meet the needs of industrial waste water treatment. |
