The oil derrick, one of the most bearing strength parts, bears the main loads which come from drilling machine. It has a lot of bars and steel structural connections are very complicated. The oil derrick is used under the bad environment and complex working conditions. Because of having not enough intensity and stability, the destruction had happened at home and abroad. So, finite element method is applied to the design the oil derrick, we can not only improve the speed of designing, but also reduce its weight to meeting the requests of intensity, rigidity and stability.Firstly, we investigated the design, manufacture and working site of the oil derrick and consulted the research approach of the same product at home and abroad, then the rational analysis scheme is made under the actual conditions. Secondly, the mechanics model of the oil derrick is set up and adopt finite element method to check up intensity and the whole elastic stability analysis under several dangerous working conditions. Finally, by postprocessor we got the stress distribution and deformed regulation, the minimum bucking load is calculated out. In addition, the elastic and elastic-plastic analysis on the front leg of the oil derrick is made by the finite element method, and contrast their calculate structure. The analysis included dispersed calculate model, basic equation and solution. Compared with the old-type oil derrick, the new-type oil derrick can chance the work efficiency above 300 percent. Its structures are rational and have better capacity. Conclusion in this paper can offer valuable reference to the designer of the oil derrick.so the high-quality cheap, safe and reliable new-type oil derrick may be designed in future.
