The treatment of raw oil and natural g as containing sulfur compounds are increasing with the rapid development of Chinese oil and natural gas industry. The alkanolamine desulfurization followed by Claus sulfur recovery is a popular technology. The SO2 in the Claus tail gas is the great pollution source oh the atmosphere. The treatment technological trend is to improve the sulfur recovery yield, reducing atmosphere pollution.A good sulfur recovery catalyst should ensure sure the off-gas meeting the strict standard. Factors affecting the activity of catalytic reactors, such as the specific surface area, pore distribution and average diameter, were investigated. The present situation on Al2O3 sulfur recovery catalyst was investigated. The influence of Claus activity on the specific surface area, volume of small pore, medium pore, big pore and super big pore were researched. They affect the Claus reaction activation following a equation:y=72.622-228.082Vs-229.667Vm-80.229Vb+348.010Vu-0.000293A2-209.359 VS2+306.558Vm2-216.123Vu2+0.521AVs+0.567AVm+0.388AVb-0.167AVu +264.300 VmVb -485.173 VmVu -502.972 VbVuA sulfur recovery catalyst CT6-2B based on the AI2O3 was developed through the Lab research and field experiment. The catalyst has an excellent activity, suitable pore distribution, good organic sulfur hydrolysis ability and physicalcharacter. The specific surface area of CT6-2B is larger than 300m2/g. The strength is higher than 150N/particle, and its grinding rate is less than 0.5%. Both lab and indusial experiments indicate that the CT6-2B has good performance comparing with the import catalyst, and domestic catalyst. The quality of the CT6-2B sulfur recovery catalyst meet the standard in the design report.
