Steel slag is produced in the steel-smelting. The discharge quantity of steel slag is one thousand and four hundred tons in our country every year. Cumulative production of steel slag is more than two hundred million tons, encroaching farm field dimension above one thousand and three hundred square meters. Most of steel slag is used as wastes to be abandoned, which pollute circumstance heavily. Exploiting multipurpose use of steel slag is the best method of solving steel slag pollution. Developing steel slag to be a high-performance inorganic filler is a new method of multipurpose use of steel slag, which can bring us good economic returns and protect environment.In this paper steel slag will be developed to be rubber filler that reach the industrial standard by milling and modifying the surface of steel slag after studying foreign and national preparation method of rubber filler. First, choosing a proper grinding aid to increase the efficiency of milling to decrease the particle diameter of steel slag. Increased fineness of filler can advance dispersity and endow some function such as incremental quantity, reinforcement and wear resistant. Second, because steel slag is different from organic high polymers in interfacial property, and hard to disperse in them. So it is required to increase the dispersion property and improve mechanic intensity and synthetic capability.In this paper, sodium silicate manganese dioxide absolute ethyl alcohol triethanolamine . trimeric sodium phosphate polysodium phosphate sodium hexametahposphate sodium hexametahposphate+ammonia water are chosen to be grinding aid to increase the efficiency of milling. The results show that hexametahposphate+ammonia water is the best grinding aid to steel slag and the efficiency of milling is increase 8.9%. Silane(WD-20) silane(WD-21) silane(WD-53) silane(WD-70) are chosen to modify the surface of steel slag and improve the iodine uptake quantity, making steel slag to be rubber filler that reach the industrial standard.Through the mechanism research on surface modification of steel slag byinfrared absorption spectrum, the result shows that the absorption of silane is ascribe to chemical absorption. In silane modification, C=C absorption peak appears in spectrum and the regional vibration of Si-O-Si becomes wide, which shows the physical absorption and chemical absorption both effect on surface of steel slag.The research offers a certain basis for grinding aid and surface modification of steel slag. And studying the mechanism on grinding aid and surface modification can be helpful to find better grinding aid and surface modification. It will improve the exploitation and deep processing of steel slag.
