| The paper dwells on the preparation of cationic starch and its sizing properties. The mainaim of the study is to overcome the shortcomings of the widely used sizes at present. After referring to documents about the categories and preparation of cationicstarch and related research, the wet preparation and quaternary ammonium typecationic starch are selected as the technologic method. To be used as textile size, cationic starch has many advantages. For example, it has excellent film andviscosity stability. Meanwhile it is an excellent sizing agent for cotton fiberand synthetic fiber. It can also replace expensive size and has less pollutionenvironment. The best reaction condition is obtained: the etherification hour for 4 hours, the etherificationdegree for 55 degree, the etherification agent for 5.8 percent to corn starch, alkali for 2.8 times tothe etherification agent on Moore. The degree of substitution for the sample is 0.0325 and thereaction efficiency is 65 percent. The compatibility of the etherifying agent and some anion substance is discussed in the paper. The results show that the deposition doesn't come into being. However, some degree separationappears between them.Furthermore, a lot of comparative tests have been conducted about the size and size film forcationic starch, cationic starch and PVA. Results show that the cohesiveness of cationic starch tocotton yarn and terylene-cotton is better. Its size film performance includes: breaking elongation, abrasion, and the times for flexibility. PVA size can improve the size solution and the size filmproperties of cationic starch. The paper also dwells on other qualities about cationic starch, such as the curve ofBrabender viscosity, antistatic properties, flowing properties and anti-mildew properties. |
