With the economic globalization and high-speed development of the information technology, economic construction is the most important thing even more, but a lot of build activity don't leave rock project as economic construction of target , especially in China of developing countries since entering 21st century. Because of the need in the mineral resources surveyed, energy development and the earth dynamics research, people have put forward higher requirements to rock mechanics in the world today. It has already become very urgent problem at present to develop rapidly and improve the theory of rock mechanics and research level of the method. Rock mechanics is a door of developing discipline which has rich theory intension and strong practice in project. Leading nonlinear science into rock mechanics, it has great theory and realistic meaning in studying. At the same time, concerning the realization of the strategic objective of our country in the 21st century, this has important meanings to construction of the country, economic development and security of the people.The research indicates that fractal theory is effective tool in studying rock mechanics. Rock mechanics is a random, changeable, unstable, and complicated non-linear system influenced by a lot of uncertain factors. In evolving respects in geology, it can make us from some characteristic of geological phenomenon and in low level and little yardstick evolve one in high level and old yardstick, since geological phenomenon is similar that the geological phenomenon of different yardstick often has similar the obvious one and the geological phenomenon of small yardstick often recurs the development course of the geological phenomenon of great yardstick. The text studies in three respects of rock mass quality evaluation, the prediction in natural block degree of rock and analysis of slope stability, by the fractal and similar characteristic that exist mainly among rock mechanics, basing on geological data of the nonferrous metals tonglu's ore, regarding modern mathematics method of fractal theory as tools. It sets up fractal model of joint rock quantity in evaluating, calculates out the fractal body structure and delineates the complexity ofthe r ock b ody s tructure by u se o f a nalysis c ombined w ith fractal t heory, g eometry characteristic and probability statistics principle provides the quantitative sign in the quality of the joint rock body and the integrality of the rock body. On this basis, it carries o n t he p rediction o f n atural b lock d egree o f r ock. F inally, i n o rder to offer more information that predict the latter from the former , parameter and basis for analyzing of slope stability, the text sets up model and excavates more information that can't react in primitive information, according to similar to whole some information examined under the great yardstick and under the small yardstick in the open in the slope.As a result, on the basis of real mine data, analyzing and researching indicates this method is correct and feasible, by examining with the other results of calculation of method.
