Alumina is a very important resource in refractory industry.Shanxi Xiaoyi is a new producting area of alumina .hi the refered literature,no related researching report about the alumina in Xiaoyi was finded.Calcinations process of three different Al2O3 content alumina was firstly studied. Secondly ,based on the mass wasting of the alumina tails(D<10cm)and the producting require of the Xiaoyi branch of Punai refractories corporation.,itd where author worked in,utilization(made to mullite of M45, M60, M70 and spinel of MA70) of alumina tails from Shanxi Xiaoyi was studied.The result indicates that:the type of alumina from Xiaoyi was D-K-R,in the experiment condition,the clinker can be made from the three kinds of alumina with 40%, 76%and 93% Al2O3 content in that condition respectively: 1350℃ ×31, 1600℃×3h and 1620℃ x3h. The t experiment of utilization of alumina tails indicates that:after keeping 600 ℃ in 2 hours, felting phenomenathe can be eliminated in the milling process,raw alumina can get a much more grinding efficiency.the better physical behaviour , lower sintering temperature and much more mollite phase the product can get.Besides,in the mollite experiment,the product can get a lower sintering temperature with added 4% SiO2 fine. At the same time,physical behaviour was not effected obviously.In the MA70 experiment ,adding little amount industrial Al2O3 has no obvious effect on the sintering temperature and the physical behaviour of the product.The experiment of MA70 needed more studies because of the limitation of the conditions of the experiment.
