The preparation of in situ particle reinforced metal matrix composites has become one of interesting topics in the field of metal matrix composites. There are more studies about the preparation technics of in situ composites in the field of ferrous matrix composites. This technique of in situ according to the principle of thermodynamic equilibrium combines the reaction synthesis of reinforced particulates with the traditional casting process, but lack of other property studies about ferrous metal matrix composites. Inasmuch as the reason mentioned, the titanium carbide particulates reinforced and the vanadium carbide particulates reinforced ferrous metal matrix composites have been processed by the principle of in situ in this thesis. And the properties of TiCp/Fe composites and VCp/Fe composites have been studied.The effects of copper and nickel to structure and properties TiCp/Fe composites have been studied systematically. It has been shown that the structures of the matrix of TiCp/Fe composites will be changed after Cu andNi are added, and the hardness of TiCp/Fe composites will be enhanced while the toughness descends. The structure and properties of VCp/Fe composites have been researched systematically. The results show that the mechanical properties of VCp/Fe composites are influenced by content, number per area, distribution of reinforcement VC particulates, and besides, the chief factor of failure of composite materials is matrix structure, and primary failure mode is ferrite cleavage fracture and the layer cleavage fracture of pearlite. So, refined grain can effectively enhance the capability of composites to counteract the invalidation.The results of study of in situ VCp/Fe composite materials for impact-abrasive wear resistance show that: it has possessed perfect impact-abrasive wear resistance, and its wear resistance has reached, even has the advantage of high chromium cast iron. Moreover, its wear mechanism appears as microcutting and microploughing, and partly microcracking.The result of research of in situ VCp/Fe composites and TiCp/Fe composites for lubricated frictional wear and frictional wear without lubrication show that: the wear resistance of VCp/Fe composites is better than TiCp/Fe composites' in the condition of having lubrication, while the wear resistance of TiCp/Fe composites is better without lubrication, and besides, both VCp/Fe composites and TiCp/Fe composites are greatly better than normalizing 45 steel in the condition of frictional wear.
