Chlorine dioxide is a new type of effective and strong oxidant. Because of capability of effective and broad-spectrum sterilization, chlorine dioxide is given attentions by people. Chlorine dioxide is more effective than the traditional chlorine in pulp bleaching, water purification and so on. It is for sure that chlorine dioxide will replace chlorine as an effective disinfector. In china, the common used techniques on chlorine dioxide are almost learnt from foreign countries. Studies on application of chlorine are developed but the studies on production processes still need improvements. Therefore, it is important to focus more on our own studies of chlorine dioxide.In this article, the properties of chlorine dioxide are carefully delivered. The advances in production processes of chlorine dioxide are discussed along with different chemical and electrolytic techniques by chlorate and chlorite. A newel technique is tested to show that chlorine dioxide is produced by the reaction of sodium chlorate with hydrogen peroxide. Fast reaction rate and pure product gas is virtues of this technology.The technique, which is less outgrowth and with a high conversion of sodium chlorate, is adopted. A newel technique proves that the chlorine dioxide is produced by the reaction of sodium chlorate with hydrogen peroxide under the existence of sulfuric acid. Some factors, such as the reaction temperature, system pressure, solution acidity, sodium chlorate concentration and the quality ratio of hydrogen peroxide to sodium chlorate on reaction are studied. The optimum reaction conditions in producing chlorine dioxide are achieved. Under such conditions the reclaim rate of chlorine dioxide is greater than 96.06%, and the high purity rate attaches 100%. It is competitive in market for the steady chlorine dioxide (2%) is less than 310 RMB/ton. Effect of reaction is studied by the addition of chlorine ions. Meanwhile, recycle reclaiming of waste acid is researched. It is available experiment to reduce Sulfuric acid and protect environment. Through amplification experiment, it would be provided to be the basis of the industrialization in the future.
