With the development of steel-making technology, it becomes more and more important to improve the cleanliness and quality of casting steel. The flowing condition of molten steel in tundish is considered very important to lengthen the residence time of molten steel in tundish, reduce the wrapped slag and improve the floating and excluding of inclusions included in molten steel. It will have direct effect on quality of casting products. Therefore, it is very significant both in theory and practical application to study and analyze the flow field and temperature field of molten steel in tundish and try best to make them proper.The context makes research on one slab caster tundish in WISCO. The research method of mathematical simulation is adopted, the large-scale universal Finite Element analyses software ANSYS8.0 is used and a Finite Element model based on tundish is built during the course of studying. By simulating tundishes with different inner structures, such as without flow control, with weir, dam and the turbulence inhabiting pouring pad and with permeable brick etc, calculating the flow field and temperature field of tundishes mentioned above, the assembled number, the installing order and location of weir and dam are confirmed to have influence on the flow field in tundish, then the structure of tundish is optimized. In the meantime, the water mechanics simulation is studied in the paper and the air-blowing experiments of permeable brick is built to discuss the influence of flow-control equipments installed in the initial tundish and the effect of Ar-blowing adopted to improve the flowing condition and wipe more inclusions off.The research proves that the flowing condition of molten steel has been much improved compared with that of molten steel in former tundish, which is not optimized. In the optimal tundish, molten steel can float properly, the fluid surface keeps steady and the temperature of molten steel becomes more uniform. When the minimum time of residence of molten steel lengthens and the proportion of piston flow enlarges, it becomes more facilitated to clean the molten steel, thereby realize the purpose of elevate the quality of casting products in the end.
