Pneumatic conveying technology is widely applied to cigarette factories. It allows not only the conveying of raw materials such as tobacco leaves, cut tobacco, tobacco stems and so on, but also has functions of debonding, decontaminating, leaf separating, drying, cooling and dust removing. Now pneumatic conveyer has became the special technological equipment in cigarette factories. The author here has carried out the analysis and the optimization of the parameters of a pneumatic conveying system based on related theories.For the real-time situation of a cigarette factory, ANSYS is used to simulate the flow in the pipe and then to give the pressure distribution and finally, the optimum conveying speed can be determined. With the comparison to the experimental results, the validity and the practicality of the computer simulation are proved and meanwhile, tests show that tobacco cutting is very related to the conveying speed and has little to do with the conveying ratio.On the basis of fully understanding the pneumatic conveying technology in the cigarette factory, it is new that the help from ANSYS is sought to do the simulation of the pipe flow. Experience has been gained and might be a helpful theoretical support for the pneumatic conveying application to cigarette factories.
