Large panel process design is a complex, experience dependant and time consuming process. Blank design and drawbead design play an important role in the process design of sheet metal drawing due to its great impact on the formability of a part. The author expatiates the general process of the process design of panels and the current status , developing trend and remaining problems of the CAPP system of stamping process is discussed. By the integration of the FEM technique and 3D modeling system , the transfer of information between the CAE system and CAD system is realized. The information for the optimization of process design is extracted and could be used to instruct , control the process design. This paper discusses the theories related to finite element analysis. Based on the analysis of the stamping process, mould design and numerical simulation of panels, the author proposes a new method for the optimization of process design of panels and realizes the control and optimization of the design of drawbead and blank shapes. The basic process, features and key technology of the FEM based optimization was discussed in this thesis and a module which integrated the CAE system with 3D modeling software was developed. By transferring datum effectively between CAD and CAE systems, this module based on UG platform can extract optimized information from FEM analysis result and reflect it in the CAD system to realize the optimization of the blank shape and drawbead geometric parameters. The system is proven to be practical by several design cases.
