SO2 is one of the important air pollutants. In recent years, the amount of SO2 discharged was about 2×107t/a, and has done great damage to people's health as well as the industrial and agricultural production of China.In order to learn the amount of SO2 discharged, the tendency of SO2 discharged and its pollution causes, it is a basis that the efficient management strategies taken by local government and control the pollution in Yuci District, Jinzhong Shanxi. In recent 10 years (1991-2000) were Studied respectively. Five functional in Yuci District areas was selected as monitoring spots, which were Yuci Hydraulic Pressure Factory, Jinhua Textile Factory, Huilong Shopping Center, No.2 People's Hospital of Yuci District and the Environmental Protection Bureau of Yuci. Intermittent monitoring by man have been made for 10 years (1991-2000). Samples have been collected and analyzed annually in January (winter), April (spring), July (summer) and October (autumn). The monitoring data obtained from the five monitoring spots were analyzed by using analysis of variance and regression analysis respectively.The results showed the SO2 concentration winter in the air in the 5 monitoring spots is higher. The average value of the SO2 concentration had all exceeded level-2 and was a rising tendency gently. Pollution in winter is more than that in spring and autumn; SO2 pollution in spring and autumn was more than that in summer, i.e., the air is clear in summer in the five functional areas. SO2 concentration of 5 monitoring spots was ranked as the industry areas > mixed business areas > business areas > residential areas > education and culture areas.The pollution in Yuci District is belonged to that of soot, and the pollution of SO2 is more serious because there is richer coal resource in Yuci District, both industry production and people's life rely mainly on coal as fuel. Although various management strategies was taken by the local government and some results was got, the effect was not very noticeable because of the underdevelopment of economy and backward technology. Therefore, the prevention and control of SO2 are one of the heavily duties for each department in the local government in the future.
