Pulsed submerged arc welding is one of the welding techniques which areapplied effectively in production, but the problem of a multitude of adjustableparameters has not been thoroughly solved as yet and restrains greatly itspopularization and application. Moreover the relationship among the weldingprocess parameters is very complicated. Very large repeated experiments arerequired to determine the optimal welding parameters, and this will cause a greatconsumption of material, energy and manpower. Therefore, it is necessary to designa more practical and reasonable simulation model for raising prediction accuracy ofwelding process parameters to obtain the optimum welding technology properties. After the study of the mechanism of pulsed submerged arc welding process andbased on the simulating research achievements of other welding methods, dynamicsimulations are performed on the systems of alternative wire-feed pulsed submergedarc welding process and that of constant and the system of constant wire-feed pulsedargon-arc welding process with the MATLAB/SIMULINK system analysis toolrespectively, the whole system simulating model is developed, which consists of themain circuit simulation model, arc load system simulation model and arc changingsystem simulation model, and analyzes the influence of the simulatingparameters(pulsed frequency/duty factor/peak current(voltage)/base current(voltage))on simulating waveform, which proves: the influence of pulsed parameters on thesimulating waveform is remarkable, it is feasible to control the arc voltage andwelding current in some ranges through adjusting the pulsed parameters ofsimulating model in pulsed submerged arc welding, and the stability of weldingprocess, welding productivity and welding quality are related to the arc voltage andwelding current tightly in the actual welding production, which proves thepracticability of the designed simulating model.Good agreement is shown between the simulated and experimental results. Therefore the designed simulation system plays an important role in predictingwelding process parameters and can greatly shorten the experiment period and savea great consumption of material, energy and manpower.
