Tundish is an important liquid distributor in continuous casting of steel, it will improve removal of inclusions, and make the even temperature distribution of liquid steel. In order to releasing the metallurgical function, especially for small tundish, the interior structure of the tundish needs to be optimized by means of dam and flow controlling device installing. Mold is the final unit for inclusion removal, it is very important for minimizing accidents and improving quality of strand. The suitable steel flow behavior in mold is the key parameter.In this paper, the liquid steel flow field in tundish and mold were digitally studied and physically simulated, the overall steel transfer system from ladle to tundish and to mold were properly optimized.The optimizing for tundish was carried for remedying the defect of tundish design. By the setting of dam and wall, the resident time of steel in tundish increased more than 50%. By assembling of splashing protect device, the liquid steel surface disturbing caused by ladle steel flow in tundish was minimized.The parameters of submerged entry nozzle (SEN), such as immersion depth, angle and section of side outlet were studied by means of digital and physical simulation, the good parameters of SEN suitable for CC of Tangshan Jianlong Steel was developed. The plant trials indicated that the implement of the new improved tundish and mold system is great helpful to enhance cleanness of liquid steel, minimize defects of strands and accidents of production, much financial benefit has been made.
