Resin transfer molding (RTM) is widely used for the characteristics of high production efficiency, low investment, good working environment, strong craft compatibility, and so on. In developed countries, RTM is developing much faster than other crafts, however, in China, RTM developed relatively late, so RTM products have low output, low intensity and do not perform well. The performance of Chinese products is far below the specifications of other countries. There are still numerous problems in RTM, such as;the product has voids and dry spots, the arrangement of gates and vents is difficult, the parameter database is disintegrated, the proper evaluation of product performance is hard to get. This thesis mainly carries on research responding to the problems referred to above:(1) The effect of parameters on RTM product compounds were studied. These studies referred to the study of fiber permeability. According to the two-dimensional permeability testing method, the permeability of different fabrics was tested with different parameters. A rule about the effect of parameters to permeability was at last developed. The results of the permeability testing also provided data for the numerical simulation of the RTM process.(2) The arrangement of gates and vents were studied to improve the compound effect on the RTM product. In view of the difficulty of gates, vents and resin flow channel design, it was proposed to apply the numerical simulation software to solve the problem. Later, PAM-RTM software was used as a tool to optimize the gates, vents and resin flow channel design. It discussed emphatically the process and method of using the numerical simulation analysis system, and established a proper method and skill of the finite element model establishment. At last contrasting results between the example product and the real product were produced. From these results, the following conclusion was reached: The numerical simulation results can better reflect the real products results. The numerical simulation software is good at designing the arrangement of gates and vents, the removing of flaws and enhancing the product's compound effect.(3) The performance of RTM products were evaluated by Computer Numerical Simulation Technology (CNST) . The trunk of a car was used as an example to discuss the application of CNST in RTM process. In this example, CNST was applied to the whole production process of RTM, from the establishment of the CAD model to the finite element model and from the mechanics performance evaluation to the process simulation. It discussed details about the methods and processes used by CNST in RTM. The skills and the methods about how to transform the CAD model to the finite element model were studied vigorously. At last, it established an effective application method of CNST, and confirmed that CNST has an important instructional function in the RTM process and product.performance evaluation.
