CIBACRON LS dyes is a new low-salt reactive dyes manufactured by Ciba-Geigy Corporation. Besides its high activity of reactive groups, high degree of fixation, good stability of dye-fiber bonds and its all eminent fastnesses, its prominent technical feature is that the amount of inorganic salts used in dyeing is much lower, which is just as much as 20-40 percent of the amount used by ordinary reactive dyes. Thus, this series of dyes has a high development value and a broad marketing prospect. In this paper, the structure of two of this series of dyes, CIBACRON YELLOW LS-R HC and CIBACRON RED LS-BHC, were analysized through ~1H-NMR, MS, IR, UV, TLC, PC(paper chromatography) and the other classic chemical methods, which showed that CIBACRON YELLOW LS-R HC was one of double 2,4,6-trifluoro-l,3,5-triazine (cyan uric fluoride) dyes, and CIBACRON RED LS-BHC was a mixed reactive group dyes of cyan uric fluoride with cyan uric chloride. Meanwhile, their structures were respectively confirmed by synthesis. Then the synthesis conditions of the two dyes were optimized. By comparing the respective four synthesis ways of them, and especially studying the influential factors on the mono and double condensation of amine with cyanic fluoride or cyanic chloride, diazo reaction and coupling reaction, the optimum conditions were obtained for the two dyes.Another series of experiments were carried out to test the application performance of the two dyes. By comparing the amount of salts used in dyeing, it was found that the dye yield of the two dyes nearly came to the maximum when the amount of salts in dyeing with the two dyes was just as much as one third of that in dyeing with ordinary dyes. The conclusion was that the use of the two dyes saved the inorganic salts and reduced the waste water pollution. What's more,by testing the wash fastness, rubbing fastness and light fastness when using the same amount of salts, it showed that the two dyes met all targets greatly and they both were superior dyes.
